What's the point of acupuncture?
Communication within your body is key to its function. When signals fail to move freely, then dysfunction occurs. In biomedical terms, neurotransmitters and hormones act as messengers that travel through your nerve tracts and blood vessels. The physiological information that they contain is one way to interpret qi† in Chinese medicine. When your qi is organized and strong, you are healthy. When your qi is chaotic and weak, then you become ill.
Therefore, the role of acupuncture is to improve internal communication. Thin, sterile needles are inserted and manipulated to input corrective signals into your body's information infrastructure. Reactive sites called acupoints have been found to be especially conducive to this process. These acupoints associate on pathways called meridians. Each meridian in turn is connected to specific tissues and organs, forming an integrated network.
In order to successfully tap into this framework, I combine the powerful Balance Method of Dr. Richard Tan Teh-Fu and the precise Meridian Diagnosis of Dr. Wang Juyi. Together, they make a practical, consistent, and effective system of tuning the body to remove a variety of disorders, for instance:
Pain conditions (whiplash injury, carpal tunnel syndrome, lower backache)
Skin disorders (dermatitis, hives, eczema, psoriasis)
Autoimmune reactions (seasonal and food allergies, sinusitis, rhinitis)
Digestive problems (IBS, acid reflux, constipation, diarrhea)
Psycho-emotional issues (stress, anxiety, depression)
Musculo-skeletal complaints (tendinitis, arthritis, gout, bone spurs)
Functional symptoms (hypertension, high cholesterol, hormone imbalance)
Acupuncture will work in most situations because your body is treated "as is". That is, although presenting symptoms are removed,
so are their underlying causes. In other words, disease mechanisms are thwarted by stimulating the innate healing dynamic.
